Our Favourite Dog Walks - Easby Abbey

Just a mile from our Richmond Store, the riverside walk from Easby Abby to Richmond Castle is popular both with locals and those travelling from further afield. This gentle route takes in two of our best historic landmarks, making it not only a pleasant dog walk, but can be a great family day out too. Covering just over a mile, this walk takes around 35 minutes to complete, and is one of our Richmond Store staff’s favourite strolls.
Linear Walk from Easby Abbey to Richmond Castle
Easby Abbey, Easby, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 7EU.
This short linear walk starts at the historic Easby Abbey, one of the best preserved monasteries in the country. The parish church within the grounds is also still in use, and contains rare 13th Century wall paintings which are still visible to see.
Easby Abbey is surrounded by the picturesque River Swale – a real bonus if your dog likes a swim! In the warmer summer months many people take picnics and sit by the river, overlooking the breath taking views of the North Yorkshire countryside. The path along the river is well maintained and clearly defined, making it an easy route to follow.
This footpath takes you directly from Easby right though to the center of Richmond. The walk finishes at Richmond Castle, which offers fantastic views of the Yorkshire Dales. An English Heritage site, Richmond Castle is a destination in itself. Make sure you allow yourself enough time for a stroll around the castle’s breathtaking Cockpit Gardens. Dogs are welcomed in the gardens and most of the castle site, as long as they are kept on a lead.
Finish the walk by walking into Richmond town center and enjoy afternoon tea in one of the many dog friendly cafés Richmond has to offer.
